Abstract:

The use of terrestrial or flying robots carrying radio equipment is thenew promising frontier in our quest towards ever more flexible, adaptable wireless networks. Interestingly, robot-augmented networks arenot only useful towards connectivity: They provide unique sensingcapabilities. The ultimate selling point of in-network robots lies intheir ability to self-navigate in 2D or 3D so as to optimize their datacollection and consequently their sensing performance. In this talk wereview recent work on sensing and localization using UAVs. Real-life experiements using muliple cooperative UAVs are also reported.
